U.S. producers of HVAC equipment can let out a sigh of relief. The construction industry is back, and better than ever. According to a white paper published by CMD, there will be an ongoing cyclical improvement in construction trends in the next 2 to 3 years – with HVAC manufacturers at the epicenter reaping all of the benefits.

If anything, 2014 was an indication of the bright road ahead, with annual sales for HVAC manufacturers soaring to $45 billion in the U.S. In 2014, total sales and shipments increased by 1.7% versus 2013 and new orders increased by 5.4%. There are a few trends expected to impact the activity levels including:

  • Mixed-use projects, especially in proximity to rapid transit stations
  • Commercial offices – campus-like locations to both live and work
  • Retail – Decline in the price of gas is freeing up money that consumers can spend on other goods
  • Arenas and Stadiums – A large number of projects are planned across the nation by teams in the NFL, NBA etc.

We’re walking away from the recession of 2008-2009 and we’re not looking back. The biggest ticket HVAC sales items for manufacturers – furnaces, cooling units, etc – are present in high-rise structures. Luckily, the trend of North America is moving toward this direction.
