National Tradesmen Day falls on Friday, September 18, 2026. It’s always the third Friday of September. Irwin Tools started the tradition in 2011, and the reasoning was simple. Somebody has to fix the furnace at midnight. Somebody has to chase down a gas leak before it turns into an evacuation. Somebody has to rewire a panel one bad connection away from a fire. None of that work comes with a parade, so one Friday in September is the closest thing to one.
More often than not, that somebody is an electrician, a plumber, or an HVAC tech. They keep homes, businesses, and essential systems running, usually without anyone noticing until something breaks. Here’s a number worth sitting with: 9 in 10 tradesmen (90%) have no plans to leave their trade in the next year. Not because it’s easy. Because it means something. SupplyHouse backs them with the parts and tools to keep the work moving, year-round.
The Day Savers Contest
This year, SupplyHouse ran a contest called The Day Savers, built around one idea: everybody knows a trade pro who has quietly saved the day more times than anyone bothered to count. A burst pipe at 2 a.m. A job nobody else wanted to touch. A callback that turned into a rescue mission. The contest asked people to actually say so, out loud, on camera.
Entries ran from August 24 through September 9, 2026. Anyone could submit a video of 60 seconds or less nominating that person, post it to Instagram, TikTok, or X (or reply to a SupplyHouse post on Facebook), tag SupplyHouse, and use the hashtag #TheDaySaversContest. From there, a panel of judges picked the ten strongest stories.
Ten tradesmen received $10,000 each, as spelled out in the official contest rules.

No Parade Necessary
More than 4 in 5 tradesmen (82%) take pride in keeping homes, businesses, and essential systems running. The most rewarding parts of the job, they say, are earning a good living (43%), independence on the job (42%), and job stability and security (40%). The ten stories above prove the point. Every nominee on this list could have kept doing the work quietly, the way they always have. SupplyHouse exists to serve every Day Saver out there, for everything they do.

Methodology: SupplyHouse surveyed 506 American adults working in the skilled trades about their careers from August 4 to 5, 2026. Respondents were 46% women, 52% men, and 2% non-binary or preferring not to say, spanning millennials (53%), Gen X (26%), Gen Z (15%), and baby boomers (6%).
