10 Million new skilled workers will be needed by 2020 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This figure looms over the heads of the Baby Boomer generation heading toward retirement. It’s tough to walk away when there is nobody there to take your place.
Attracting young talent is already an industry-wide challenge that contractors are facing, and an issue that will only worsen with time unless solutions are put into practice.
According to Contractor Mag, PHCC and the PHCC Educational Foundation are taking big steps to become part of the solution at the industry level. They are dedicating time and resources this year to recruit and train the next generation of skilled workers. They’re putting an emphasis on painting the industry in an attractive way, and are working with the HVACR Workforce Development Foundation to develop training programs.
