You may have seen our blog post about air filters and MERV ratings – but what we have in store for you is on another level! One of our newest products here at SupplyHouse.com is General Filters’s line of air purifiers, under the collection name Second Wind.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) determined that people spend a majority of their time indoors and the pollutants indoors might be 50% to 99% higher than the level outdoors. Second Wind aims to combat these airborne contaminants with their new products. They use an ultraviolet germicidal light, filtration, and a patented photo-catalytic process to decontaminate your air steam from mold, bacteria, and infectious diseases. Second Wind air purifiers are available for residential and commercial applications.
Second Wind’s current line of air purifiers have multiple styles, but we’re going to focus on three specific styles: the Dual HO Lamp, the Air/Coil Clean Purifier, and the Zephyr Air Purifier.
For 9,000 hours of continuous operation, the Dual HO Lamp diminishes the occurrence of biological growths in a return or supply air steam. It even works to eliminate odors. The Air/Coil Clean versions shine their germicidal UVC light on the surface of evaporator coils. The Zephyr Air Purifier has a sleek new design to facilitate germicidal purification throughout your residence. Replacement bulbs and ballasts (if applicable) are available for these units and Second Wind lists them in the product spec sheet on their website. Maintenance is relatively low on these units, too!
For those of you working with commercial buildings, it’s worth noting that they have two styles: 5000 Series and the NEMA Series. These lamps are much larger in size and will effectively cover a wider amount of space for mold and fungus. Second Wind’s NEMA series works in conjunction with rooftop air handlers. This type allows for indoor or outdoor use, providing a degree of protection from weather (rain, sleet, snow, splashing water) and even corrosion. For specific measurements or an estimate on how many of these units you might need to order for your system, please click the following link: http://www.secondwindairpurifier.com/usercontent/documents/5000%20Series%20Guidebook.pdf
You may already be thinking, Sounds great! What will I need in addition to the purifier itself? How do I go about selecting one for my system? Well, one component you won’t have to worry about is mounting. All models come with magnet mounting, making it easier for installation and your peace of mind since there’s one less thing to order.
When it comes to choosing an air purifier for your application, it is best to contact an HVAC professional if you are not sure what your voltage requirements are. She or he will be able to assist with installation, too. You can also find the full user manual here.
