Oldest Customer Complaint in History is About Copper

Have you ever filed a customer complaint? Been upset when you ordered something and what you got was wrong? I’m sure lots of us have even left negative reviews on the Internet and companies’ social media pages. But this customer took it to whole new level…when he filled up an entire clay tablet laying out his grievances.

 

Dating back as early as 1750 BCE, a clay cuneiform tablet has a whole list of complaints written by one man called Nanni to his supplier, identified as Ea-Nasir. Apparently, Nanni had been delivered the wrong grade of copper, and had to make his thoughts known about the issue.

This is quite possibly the oldest customer complaint in history. It was recovered by archaeologists from Ur, an ancient Mesopotamian city. In his letter, the customer says tells his supplier that he is not to be messed with: “you did not do what you promised me. What do you take me for, that you treat somebody like me with such contempt…it is now up to you to restore (my money) to me in full. I will not accept here any copper from you that is not of fine quality.”

So aside from delivering the wrong type of copper, this man accuses the supplier of delays in other orders on top of being rude. This definitely seems like something worth complaining about. Would you complain if you were in Nanni’s shoes?

    I have no complaints. I have been buying from you since you were pex supply. The quality of products are top notch,the prices are unbeatable believe me I have tried ,you guys beat everyone from 30-60 percent or more.One time I bought a gas valve from you guys $120.00 same valve honey-well I was told goes for $250.00 at a plumbing house.
