Their device, called the Reon Pocket is a wallet-sized device that is Bluetooth enabled and utilizes thermoelectric cooling as its main operating system.

Requiring the need of a special undershirt, you slip the Reon Pocket in the pocket at the base of your neck, sync it with the app, and you’re done! Instant cooling—and heating too, since it also has the ability to double as a mini, portable space heater—at your fingertips.

Sony’s various tests reveal that their product has the ability to cool one’s body temperature down by 23 degrees Fahrenheit, and on the flip side, can heat up about 14 degrees Fahrenheit.

So how does it work? Well, unlike typical air conditioning units that blow processed air, this device uses something called the Peltier effect. Essentially, this creates a temperature difference by transferring heat between two objects using electrical currents, as opposed to processed air.

Now, let’s get into the fun techie details! The Reon Pocket supports both iOS and Android devices, is equipped with a 24-hour battery life and completely charges in a mere 2 hours. Plus, it’s powered by USB-C and only weighs 3 ounces, so you’ll barely even know it’s there.

To up things even more, Sony has created the Standard and Lite versions. The Lite is cheaper but only comes with a manual mode operation. The Standard, however, let’s you manually control the temperature but, with a future app update, will have this automatically synced.

The big—unfortunate—catch, though, is that this product is currently only available in Japan. The prices range from $117 to $175, and is expected to launch in March 2020, should its crowd funding prove successful.

Tell us: would you wear a mini, portable cooling and heating system? Does the special undershirt throw you off? Would you want this product introduced in the U.S.?
